Cambodian Shareholder Appeals for Justice in Alleged Fraud by YY Capital Chairman

(Phnom Penh) – A shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia for assistance in a case involving alleged financial misconduct by the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei, a Japanese national. The investor claims Yamada engaged in a series of actions that breached the trust of shareholders and caused substantial financial losses.

According to the complaint, Yamada is accused of inflating the purchase prices of multiple real estate properties, resulting in the alleged misappropriation of roughly USD 4 million for personal use and that of his associates. He is also said to have bypassed the rights of other shareholders by initiating fictitious business transactions, including loans totaling over USD 7 million, allegedly using the names of well-known corporations to mislead investors.

The allegations further point to the creation of multiple shell companies across Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, with financial operations reportedly controlled directly by Yamada. Some of the misappropriated funds are believed to have been transferred abroad, including to a bank account in the name of his wife.

In Cambodia, Yamada and several accomplices are already facing at least two criminal investigations, with courts freezing multiple assets and bank accounts. Authorities in several other countries, including China, Japan, Singapore, and the United States, are also reported to be investigating him for financial crimes, document forgery, and potential money laundering.

The shareholder’s letters emphasize the need for thorough and impartial investigations by Cambodian authorities to ensure justice is served and to prevent any potential interference from influential individuals that could compromise the case. The appeal underscores concerns about witness intimidation, destruction of evidence, or other tactics that might allow the accused to evade legal accountability.
